MGM Cotai - Interactive Experience ‘You Are Art’
-
MGM Cotai is a large-scale architectural installation featuring an array of unique LED screens (25 separate LED screens, 4-8K each) located in a public space in Macau, China.
Obscura designed the immersive content program to showcase emerging artists and display the extraordinary landscapes of China and other cinematic material in addition to generative interactive work.
You Are Art is a real-time interactive art installation at the MGM Cotai resort. Utilizing multiple cameras positioned around the pre-function space (3 stories high and 2 football fields wide) the result of processing live camera feeds to display into a kaleidoscopic reflection of visitors moving throughout the space.
The resulting interactive artwork is part of a larger content program that includes 260 minutes of custom content exploring the endless beauty of nature, art, and cultural treasures of China and international world heritage locations.

Technical and design considerations:
Multiple camera feeds from various locations throughout the MGM Spectacle were processed in realtime and distributed to LEDs throughout the Spectacle.
Prior to on-site integration we reviewed the design treatments in VR. We used VR to evaluate the user experience from different POVs throughout the Spectacle and to help us understand high foot traffic areas prior to on-site integration.
One of the creative challenges was to engage guests to play with the interactive displays by catching a glimpse of themselves on the LEDs resulting in on-site user testing prior to integration.
The software development was distributed across 20+ Obscura built media servers - which required close coordination with internal and external teams.
A technical consideration - we had to ensure that the camera feed distribution was aligned with the server distribution.
